Part
of Claus Feldmann’s “equipment” is his talent in
handling form, light and color, a talent necessary in
order to master the photographic challenges both in the
studio and in nature.
“For
me, nature is the biggest, greatest studio in the world.
My light equipment is the sun. The sheer existence of
this abundance of light and color sets me free. This
feeling of freedom helps me to appreciate the divine
beauty of nature.
The presupposition for artistic creation in nature is to
perceive form, light and color and give it an identity.
The camera is merely a tool to ‘catch’ the beauty of
nature. It’s like a dialogue, a conversation between
nature and me. It gives me freedom and the more freedom
I have, the more self-discipline I have to apply to
achieve an acceptable result. When this is done, then I
am pleased."
Working in the Slot Canyons
is often comparable to photographing buildings,
sculptures and other works of art. One gets the
impression of a luminous architecture: futuristic,
abstract and surreal.”
Claus
tries to give his photographs a central form of
expression and strives to capture the life he sees in
the barren desert.
“The
contrast of light and color, from sunrise to sunset, is
like the palette of a painter - ready to be conveyed
like an idea. A photograph in its final form should be
an expression and contain an optimal assertion: a
converted expression of an impression."
